Beijing Red Capital Club (新红资俱乐部) Cuisine: ChineseThe Beijing Red Capital Club is thee restaurant where visiting politicians, dignitaries, ambassadors and other honorary guests are entertained for a dining experience that would be nearly impossible for them to forget. Also, almost impossible to find, the Beijing Red Capital Club is located in a tiny boutique hotel down a dodgy-looking hutong or alleyway off the main thoroughfare. Look out for Madam Mao's limo in front of the restaurant. The Beijing Red Capital Club restaurant was restored from a Qing dynasty courtyard residence and then decorated with Mao memorabilia acquired from the central government. The paintings on the beams were painted by the artists who maintain the paintings in the Summer Palace. When you pick up the antique telephones in the bar, you hear Chairman Mao spewing his propaganda. The Beijing Red Capital Club restaurant is a feast for the senses of sight (art and memorabilia), hearing (propaganda), smell (kitchen aroma), touch and taste. The cuisine served is an extravagance at all levels and the range of dishes is superlatively extensive. To appreciate the menu, plan on arriving earlier than your reservation to have a drink and peruse and study the menu. Polish off your dining experience at the end of the evening at the cigar divan and recline in the old Communist-style proletariat sofas replete with white lace couch covers. Relish the evening and you will agree that the Beijing Red Capital Club deserves the designation as one of the best restaurants in Beijing. |
